Eiffel Tower or Montparnasse Tower: which one to go up right now
Why people usually ask the question
The debate between the two towers comes down to one sentence: from the Montparnasse Tower, you can see the Eiffel Tower; from the Eiffel Tower, you can't. The Montparnasse observatory, on the 56th floor, used to offer a 360° view of Paris with the Eiffel Tower at the center of the picture, and a rooftop terrace accessible on foot. That was the argument, and it was a good one.
What has changed: Montparnasse is closed
The observatory's official website announces it at the top of the page: "Paris Montparnasse Observatory is CLOSED to the public for renovations". We checked it on November 5, 2026, and no reopening date is listed. Before buying a combined ticket from a reseller, check directly on that site.
What we recommend instead
For the view from above, the Eiffel Tower. We have gathered the floors, tickets, and the advice we give at reception on our dedicated visit page.
For the Eiffel Tower in the landscape, there is no need to go up. The Trocadéro, opposite, and the Champ de Mars, on our side of the Seine, are the two classic framings; we detail them on our page about where to photograph it. And that is the principle of our rooms with a view, avenue Duquesne: the Double Room with View and the Junior Suite with View (28 m², with a lounge area) look out onto the Eiffel Tower, which remains the quietest way to have it before your eyes in the evening.
